Designed for youth in grades 8–12, this three-day retreat curriculum uses Bryan Stevenson’s Just Mercy as a guide for meaningful conversation, reflection, and action. The retreat can be facilitated virtually or in-person, giving leaders flexibility to adapt it to their group’s needs and schedule.
The retreat begins with a group viewing of the Just Mercy movie, followed by discussions and activities that explore the story’s main themes of justice, mercy, and advocacy. While reading the book is optional for participants, it is recommended that the leader read it to provide full context for some discussion points.
Questions and activities are geared toward high school students, but leaders can use their discretion to determine appropriateness for younger participants.
Whether your group engages with the movie, the book, or both, this curriculum provides multiple ways to guide youth in meaningful exploration of justice, empathy, and the power of standing for what is right.
